Pianosa Research Base

The Base Ricerca Pianosa (Pianosa Island Research Base) of the National Research Council of Italy (BRP-CNR) represents a strategic infrastructure able of hosting work groups, supporting research and / or training projects and encouraging discussion and debate between the various national and international scientific communities about basic and applied science topics.

The BRP-CNR is located in the natural laboratory that is the Island of Pianosa (Tuscan Archipelago) with its peculiar climatic, hydrological, morphological, geological and biological characteristics which offer several possibilities for monothematic and / or integrated scientific research on the two macro-environments "land" and "sea".

The study of the natural heritage of the island and the effects that its peculiar climatic and environmental conditions have on it may spark a wide scientific interest in the whole Mediterranean Basin Area. Currently, with CNR Provision in April 2019, the DSSTTA has entrusted the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources with the management of the BRP-CNR setting also up a Working Group (WG) made of IGG, IBE and ISMAR personnel, i.e. the CNR Institutes which have mostly worked on the island until today.

The IGG, with the contribution of the WG, is carrying out the necessary extraordinary maintenance work on the structure, with the aim of making the BRP-CNR fully usable and functional in the first part of 2023.

Project proposals and base use request can already be submitted through the appropriate sections of this site (Subscribe a new project) following the Regulations directives .
